Eclipse across America: Citizen Science Observations of the 21 August Total Solar Eclipse Read a new study about the citizen science observing campaign during the total solar eclipse of August in the Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology. The American Mathematical Society AMS is an association of professional mathematicians dedicated to the interests of mathematical research and scholarship, and serves the national and international community through its publications, meetings, advocacy and other programs.

John Howard Van Amringe was the first president and Fiske became secretary. The de facto journal, as intended, was influential in increasing membership.

The popularity of the Bulletin soon led to Transactions of the American Mathematical Society and Proceedings of the American Mathematical Societywhich were also de facto journals. In Charlotte Scott became the first woman to join the society. The society reorganized under its present name and became a national society inand that year Scott served as the first woman on the first Council of the American Mathematical Society.

In the society called for the creation of a new teaching degree, a Doctor of Arts in Mathematics, similar to a PhD but without a research thesis.

Gray challenged that situation by "sitting in on the Council meeting in Atlantic City. When she was told she had to leave, she refused saying she would wait until the police came. Mary relates the story somewhat differently: When she was told she had to leave, she responded she could find no rules in the by-laws restricting attendance at Council meetings. She was then told it was by 'gentlemen's agreement. Julia Robinson was the first female president of the American Mathematical Society — but was unable to complete her term as she was suffering from leukemia.

The AMS, along with the Mathematical Association of America and other organizations, holds the largest annual research mathematics meeting in the world, the Joint Mathematics Meeting held in early January. The Joint Mathematics Meeting in Baltimore drew approximately 6, attendees.

Each of the four regional sections of the AMS Central, Eastern, Southeastern, and Western holds meetings in the spring and fall of each year. The society also co-sponsors meetings with other international mathematical societies. The AMS selects an annual class of Fellows who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of mathematics. The AMS publishes Mathematical Reviewsa database of reviews of mathematical publications, various journals, and books.

Some prizes are awarded jointly with other mathematical organizations. See specific articles for details. TeX and LaTeX are now ubiquitous in mathematical publishing. The AMS is led by the President, who is elected for a two-year term, and cannot serve for two consecutive terms.

Wikimedia Commons has media related to American Mathematical Society. The AMS Review is positioned to be the premier journal in marketing that focuses exclusively on conceptual contributions across all sub-disciplines of marketing. It publishes articles that advance the development of market and marketing theory.

The AMS Review is receptive to different philosophical perspectives and levels of analysis that range from micro to macro. Especially welcome are manuscripts that integrate research and theory from non-marketing disciplines such as management, sociology, economics, psychology, geography, anthropology, or other social sciences.

Examples of suitable manuscripts include those incorporating conceptual and organizing frameworks or models, those extending, comparing, or critically evaluating existing theories, and those suggesting new or innovative theories. Comprehensive and integrative syntheses of research literatures including quantitative and qualitative meta-analyses are encouraged, as are paradigm-shifting manuscripts.

Manuscripts that focus on purely descriptive literature reviews, proselytize research methods or techniques, or report empirical research findings will not be considered for publication. The AMS Review does not publish manuscripts focusing on practitioner advice or marketing education. All articles submitted to this journal are peer-reviewed. The AMS has a single blind peer-review process in which the reviewers know who the authors of the manuscript are, but the authors do not have access to the information on who the peer reviewers are.

This journal is devoted to research articles of the highest quality in all areas of pure and applied mathematics. Information can be found on the journal's Submission for Peer Review page. All of these back issues are freely available electronically with fully searchable content.

The digitization of the back issues of this journal was made possible through the generous support of an anonymous donor. To access this material click on " All Issues: Present. Individual readers of this publication, and nonprofit libraries acting for them, are permitted to make fair use of the material, such as to copy an article for use in teaching or research.

Permission is granted to quote brief passages from this publication in reviews, provided the customary acknowledgment of the source is given. Republication, systematic copying, or multiple reproduction of any material in this publication is permitted only under license from the American Mathematical Society.

The Journal of the American Mathematical Society is published quarterly with articles electronically published individually to the AMS website before appearing in an issue. This estimate is the result of dividing the number of manuscripts for this journal in the Providence office that have not yet gone to the printer on the above date by the average number of articles per issue over the previous twelve months, reduced by the number of issues published in four months the time necessary for editing and composing a typical issue.

In an effort to make articles available as quickly as possible, articles are electronically published on the AMS website individually after proof is returned from authors and before appearing in an issue. Offprints are provided free of charge in electronic form to all authors. A downloadable and printable PDF version of each article is available from the AMS website following print publication.

Notification email containing access information is sent to all authors as soon as an issue is published in print. This electronic delivery system provides authors with permanent electronic access to their published material. From several points in the system certain specialized journal entry actions are available. These actions are referred to as "pre-defined" journal entries because they have a specific function and, depending on the function, they often require very little data entry.

Access to standard not pre-defined journal entries in all Centers through selection of New Journal Entry on the center Actions menu requires Bookkeeper or Owner level security unless assigned in a user-defined custom Security Group. See Security Group Setup for more information about security levels. Creating a journal entry involves entering general information as to the division, date and memo description to be attached to all parts of the journal entry. Select the applicable division from the list.

The list displays only those divisions matching the logged in user's security. If you need to change the displayed division, select the correct division from the list and a message advises you that the form will be cleared.

You do not need to exit the form to change divisions. Using the Date Pickerselect or enter the Date you want the journal entry to post to the general ledger.

The current system date defaults and can be changed. This description defaults into voucher section description fields and is also available when viewing the completed journal entry. The Balance field is the calculation of accumulated Debits minus accumulated Credits. The display changes as section rows are updated. Then, depending on where you choose to access the journal entry form, one or more of the following Voucher Detail Sections are available to enter the debit and credit rows of the journal entry.

Many of the accounting adjustments you need to make to receivables accounts can be handled by the use of the pre-defined journal entries. See sections below for information about grid defaults and available actions. See Sections in the Receipts topic for more information about locating invoices in receivable voucher detail sections.

Defaults all the open invoices for the selected insured and division, regardless if the invoices are brokered or non-brokered. To apply an adjustment to an invoice having a zero balance, select the All Invoices Since option, select or enter a date, and click Get Data. All invoices with an Invoice Date greater than or equal to the date you entered are displayed.Notice: Normally, all AMS journal articles are freely available one year after publication date.

We hope this may be helpful to researchers and students and others in our communities who may have challenges with their usual access methods, as well as helpful to the librarians who serve them.
